Welcome to SAAFL

The SA Amateur Football League Inc. (SAAFL) was formed in 1911 and provides and promotes opportunities for individuals in metropolitan Adelaide communities to participate in Australian Rules Football in an accessible and safe environment. The League has 66 clubs, 222 teams and 23,000
registered players and officials, and is one of the largest recreational Australian Rules Football Leagues in Australia.

The League currently provides competition across 8 senior divisions with reserve grades, accompanied by a separate C grade competition and a junior competition encompassing youths from 16-18 years of age. There are two U/18 divisions positioned geographically each with 12 teams. Of our 66 clubs 42 have additional junior football teams in age groups ranging from 8 to 16 years. These age 8 to 16 groups are run by three junior football leagues.

There are 110 games played every week of the minor round attracting over 40,000 spectators at Clubs all over the Adelaide metropolitan area. There are 660 official SAAFL umpires ensuring a safe enjoyable game environment.

SAAFL is a not-for-profit organisation that uses all profits to assist in developing the League, its clubs, players and its facilities.

SAAFL offices are located at Thebarton Oval renamed the Adelaide Airport Stadium in 2012. Adelaide Airport Stadium is regarded as one of the best football facilities in the state. With its new oval lighting and its excellent playing surface, a capacity for over 10,000 spectators including undercover seating, in two grandstands, for 1,000. Its proximity to the Adelaide CBD and airport makes it is an unique complex. SAAFL plays at the venue during season and leases the oval to other professional and community sporting organisation when not in use.

The stadium purpose built function room is ideal for corporate functions, weddings, birthdays, christenings, sports days, school socials, Christmas functions or New Year celebrations, educational seminars, conferences and other special events. The main function room seats over 200 and licensed for 300 patrons. There is a commercial kitchen, large cool room, with bar, dance floor,
a stage, PA system and overhead projector consequently all your needs are catered for. Off street parking and no residential neighbours ensuring privacy for your function.

Our venue can be utilised with the oval for superior events such as corporate sports days followed with presentations and catering including bar facilities.

Ideally located 10 minutes from the CBD we have a venue to cater for all.
